ZigWheels.com: Drivers must prepare for long journeys
- 29th October 2009
Motorists that are planning to enjoy a weekend away or take a long journey should consider getting their car serviced before the trip, according to a driving website.
ZigWheels.com has claimed it is vital to ensure vehicles are in “good shape” and a key way to do this is to get a car serviced around a week before departure.
Such work would ensure that a range of car parts are in a good condition, from belts, hoses and wiper blades to vital issues such as wheel nuts.
“Remember without fail to check all the tyres,” the website explained.
“Make sure the inspection is thorough – check the side walls from inside for injuries, wear or developing ruptures which can result in blowups at highway speeds.”
Recent research published by specialist insurer RIAS found that 21 per cent of motorists neglect basic car maintenance issues, such as checking their brakes or tyres.
