Warranty Direct: Potholes causing costly repairs
- 29th December 2009
A new study has suggested that drivers across the UK could be forking out on repair work due to potholes.
The research by Warranty Direct, for its campaign website potholes.co.uk, found that motorists who have experienced damage to their vehicles as a result of the problem areas face an average repair bill of £240.
It has estimated that the total cost to British motorists is in the region of £1 million, in terms of maintenance and servicing.
A spokesperson for the company said: “Many drivers face bills of several hundred pounds from the damage to wheels and their undercarriage.
“The problem is the combined result of the recent wet and wintry weather conditions and longer hours of darkness.”
Recent figures published by Post Office Car Insurance found that 48 per cent of all car owners have cut their expenditure on repairs and maintenance to save money in the past year.
It also suggested that many were not following professional advice to have cars serviced at least once a year.
