VOSA set to reveal MOT failure details
- 10th December 2009
Details of the vehicles that regularly struggle to pass MOT tests are to be released by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), under new plans.
The Information Commissioner’s Office has called for the information to be published by the body after the agency initially chose not to when requested to by the BBC, reports HonestJohn.co.uk.
VOSA claimed that such a move could prove “commercially damaging to vehicle manufacturers” that find their models tend to be among those that do not pass regularly servicing.
However, such suggestions were rejected by the Information Commissioner due to the fact that no firms which produce cars provided any evidence that this was actually the case.
The release of the details could be highly useful to drivers as they look to either purchase vehicles or prepare to take cars into a garage for an MOT or maintenance checks.
Last month, a study by The Co-operative Insurance and road safety charity Brake revealed that a quarter of young motorists do not have a valid MOT certificate.
