Virgin Money study suggests benefits of car servicing
- 23rd February 2010
Motorists driving new cars should consider whether the vehicles are entirely roadworthy through servicing, a new study has suggested.
The research by Virgin Money found that 40 per cent of car insurance claims are linked to cars aged between three and six-years-old, with five-year-old vehicles most likely to be involved in them.
Grant Bather, spokesman for the firm, said the issue is not necessarily related to cars of that age being dangerous, as claims could be linked to breakdown or theft.
However, he added: “Looking at these statistics, people looking at buying a second hand car should also make sure that they have taken the necessary action to ensure that the car meets all of the road standards.”
Neil Cunliffe, Lancashire County Council’s road safety group manager, recently stated that car servicing can ensure that vehicles remain as efficient as possible.
He stated that incorrect tyre pressure and other issues can have a negative impact on fuel consumption.
