UK motorists ‘failing to check oil’
- 1st April 2010
Drivers in the UK are failing to keep track of the oil levels in their cars, according to a new poll.
The study by CCB FastMAP, on behalf of Chevron Global Lubricants, revealed that nearly one in ten motorists never check their oil, while more than two in three do not know what oil to use.
Only 17.2 per cent of respondents claimed they would check with a dealer or independent garage, while 80 per cent rely on vehicle handbooks and other similar sources.
Brian Hayes, marketing manager for Chevron Global Lubricants in the UK, said the right oil is key to an engine’s smooth operation.
He added: “If car owners don’t know the right oil to use and fail to keep it at an optimal level, they risk premature wear and tear, potentially large repair bills and face extra fuel costs.”
Recent research by Vauxhall revealed that 27 per cent of people try to avoid car maintenance checks for as long as possible.
