Top Gear star urges drivers to prepare for MOTs
- 26th January 2010
Motorists in the UK should do all they can to ensure their cars pass their MOTs, according to Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond.
The motoring expert has claimed that drivers should check a number of issues before taking a vehicle for servicing, as many issues which are easily avoidable could lead to fails.
In his regular blog for Mirror.co.uk, he called on people to check the tread of their tyres, examine flexible rubber brake hoses for splits and check headlamps for cracked lenses or non-working bulbs.
Missing mounts on an exhaust can also cause problems, he explained, while cracked or split wipers are “a common failure”.
Discussing servicing, he added: “It’s a right pain when your car fails its MOT and even more so if a bit of forethought and fettling could have prevented it.”
Research by leading charity Brake recently revealed that more than two in five motorists in the UK have admitted to driving cars with defects in the past 12 months.
