SMMT: MOTs vital to keeping roads safe
- 14th January 2010
Car servicing and MOTs play a “vital part” in ensuring roads across the UK are a safe place to drive, it has been claimed.
In a new statement, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has suggested that success in such tests is as much of a benefit to other drivers as it is to the owner of a vehicle.
The organisation has added that motorists can guarantee a strong performance in the tests by getting vehicles regularly serviced and carrying out checks on tyres, lighting and seat belts themselves.
“Pass rates will be determined by a wide range of factors, but particularly the level of use, ownership profile and the frequency of servicing or regular maintenance,” the body added.
The release of the comments from the SMMT has come after the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency released information on MOT failure rates.
It was found that Renault Meganes and Vauxhall Corsas had the highest failure rate in 2007.
