Sainsbury’s: Cost of car servicing has fallen
- 19th November 2009
New figures published by Sainsbury’s Finance have revealed that the average annual cost of car servicing has dropped this year.
It was revealed that repairs and maintenance work cost an average of £298.95 this year, which is a small 0.18 per cent drop from 2008’s figure of £299.49 but 3.76 per cent higher than in 2007.
The study also found that the average overall cost of running a car – which includes paying for insurance, servicing and MOTs, fuel and tax – is now over 11 per cent higher than two years ago.
Ben Tyte, the car insurance manager of Sainsbury’s, said the increase was mostly down to rises in cover and tax costs.
He added: “The cost of driving a car can be kept better in check by shopping around, particularly for car insurance and servicing.
Recent research published by The Co-operative Insurance and road safety charity Brake found that a quarter of young drivers in the UK do not have a valid MOT certificate.
