Sainsbury’s Car Insurance warns drivers over winter weather
- 1st March 2010
Drivers should carry out a range of basic checks before setting off on journeys in poor weather conditions, it has been suggested.
Sainsbury’s Car Insurance has called on motorists to ensure their vehicles have a winter service, while they should also keep an eye on oil, water and brake fluid levels on a regular basis.
People should also take a look at their tyre pressure and tread depth, particularly if the latter is below the minimum legal requirement of 1.6mm.
Ben Tyte, Sainsbury’s Car Insurance manager, said: “UK motorists have a typically stoic approach to driving in wintry conditions, and if they start to become complacent and think the worst weather is behind them, they could increase their chances of having an accident in the coming days and weeks.”
He added that basic steps can ensure the safety of both car owners and other road users.
Drivers were recently urged to keep an eye on cracks that may have formed on windscreens.
Auto Windscreens said that nearly two million vehicles fail their MOT each year due to unchecked damage.
