Regular fleet servicing `makes economic sense'
- 8th May 2009
Fleet operators should ensure their vehicles are regularly serviced as a cost-cutting measure in the current economic climate, it has been suggested.
According to business consultancy Fleet Operations, frequent car services including fluid level and tyre pressure checks should be carried out as part of a company's protection against engine damage and overuse of fuel.
The group went on to stress that vehicle servicing should be carried out by accredited garages and employees must ensure maintenance is carried out in accordance with manufacturer schedules and individual car mileage.
In addition, the organisation pointed out that driving on poorly-maintained tyres can increase fuel use and endanger other road users, while failure to check oil levels can result in a blown engine which requires expensive repairs.
Earlier this week, financial news provider Mainstreet.com reported that regular car maintenance checks are the best way of ensuring good fuel economy.
The group added that oil changes, wiper replacements, fluid checks, tyre rotations and pressure checks are the most vital vehicle services.
