Regular checks `help to keep car costs low'
- 17th September 2009
New research has suggested that regular servicing and other
checks can help drivers to keep their overall motoring costs low
in the current economic climate.
The study by insurance provider Ibuyeco found that 35 per cent
of motorists regularly take a look at the condition of their
tyres, as maintaining the right pressure can make vehicles more
fuel efficient.
In addition, 34 per cent turn off air conditioning, while almost
half are now accelerating and braking more gently to keep their
cars in good condition.
Lucy Bailey, senior marketing manager at Ibuyeco, said savings
from "small adjustments" can add up over time.
"Many of these habits, such as car sharing and switching off the
engine in traffic jams, are also good for the environment," she
added.
Vehicle rental firm Europcar recently claimed that MOT's and
other car servicing should be booked at the intervals suggested in guidance provided by manufacturers.
