Oil check week `a success'
- 2nd July 2009
A campaign to encourage motorists to check their car's oil levels has been declared a success, after thousands of people joined in.
National Oil Check Week, run by Comma, saw 7,200 motorists monitor their oil levels and carry out car servicing during the four-day campaign.
The scheme intended to highlight that a simple oil check can reduce car servicing costs for some motorists, while repeated loss of the substance may highlight the need to get the car checked out at a repair garage.
Mike Bewsey, Comma's sales and marketing director, said: "Most people we spoke to were surprised to discover that their cars needed such regular attention and I'm certain we saved at least a few people having to shell out for a new engine."
The importance of car servicing was highlighted during the week, with one car breaking down before the oil check could be carried out.
Previous research carried out by Comma found that over half of UK motorists do not check their oil regularly, while 17 per cent never do it.
