Nearly half of drivers ‘cut car maintenance’
- 22nd December 2009
A new study has suggested that drivers in the UK may be putting themselves at risk by cutting car maintenance costs.
According to the research by Post Office Car Insurance, 48 per cent of all car owners have admitted to reducing their spend on repairs and maintenance to save money in the past 12 months.
It was also found that 29 per cent of car owners have put off servicing to cut costs, despite motorists being advised to have such checks carried out at least once a year.
Richard Pennant-Jones, head of car insurance at the Post Office, said: “Car safety is one area where cutting corners could cost you more than you bargained for, especially when bad winter weather sets in.
“Failing to maintain your car could even result in it being deemed un-roadworthy and therefore invalidate your insurance.”
Recent figures published by Glass’s Guide found that 46 per cent of people have deferred some expenditure on their vehicles over the past year.
