More women `unsure on car servicing'
- 1st July 2009
Women are failing to make the car maintenance checks necessary to keep their vehicles on the road, it has been revealed.
According to studies carried out by Churchill Car Insurance, women are less aware than men of basic car servicing skills such as how to carry out oil checks and brake fluid assessments.
The research found 44 per cent of women do not know where to check oil levels, compared to 21 per cent of men, while 72 per cent are unsure where to look to see if their brakes have adequate levels of fluid.
Claire Foster, spokesperson for the company, commented: "Our research shows that many drivers lack essential car knowledge. In particular, many women told us that they don't feel knowledgeable when it comes to their cars."
She went on to say that having basic car maintenance knowledge can help ensure motorists are confident on the roads, as well as preventing unnecessary car breakdowns.
Last week, campaign group TyreSafe claimed that commercial fleet operators should make tyre maintenance a car servicing priority to maximise the safety of their staff.
