Moneysupermarket.com urges drivers to be prepared
- 27th November 2009
Motorists need to ensure they are fully prepared for journeys they take over the winter months, according to a leading comparison website.
Moneysupermarket.com has made the call after research revealed a third of serious or fatal motor accidents take place in the dark.
Steve Sweeney, head of motor insurance at the website, said car problems in such conditions can be “especially worrying”, so drivers should ensure their vehicles are fully fit for the road before setting out.
“I advise motorists to make regular checks to their vehicles to avoid being a victim of a breakdown,” he explained.
“Taking regular precautionary measures such as checking the oil level, anti-freeze, hazard lights, and tyres for tread depth and pressure, and stowing a spare tyre in the boot of your car are a good idea.”
Recent figures published by insurance provider RIAS found that around a fifth of motorists never check their brakes or tyres apart from when taking their car to a garage for its MOT.
