Mondial Assistance: Christmas car maintenance ‘can stop New Year breakdown blues’
- 15th December 2009
Car maintenance over Christmas is vital to ensure that cars are able to start without any problems in the New Year, it has been claimed.
According to breakdown services provider Mondial Assistance, cold snaps can cause vehicles a number of problems.
The group added that December 28th 2009 and January 4th 2010 are expected to be the busiest days for roadside assistance, with calls expected to increase by 40 per cent on these two days.
Lee Taylor, automotive director at the company, commented: “Even if you are staying put over the holidays it’s a good idea to start the engine and give the car a short run once or twice. This will help to avoid the dreaded flat battery.”
He added that a flat battery is the cause of 30 per cent of breakdowns at this time of year.
Earlier this month, research by automotive publication Glass’s Guide found that drivers are cutting back on spending on their cars in the current economic climate.
