Main dealers `not the only option for car servicing'
- 24th July 2009
The recent experiences of a man in Swindon have highlighted how people should not just consider going back to main dealerships for their car servicing needs.
Gym owner Vernon Montgomery discovered his Chrysler Crossfire was making strange noises and went to a dealer who claimed the vehicle required a new engine and gaskets that would cost over £16,000.
However, the Swindon Advertiser reports that the surprise of the quote led him to get a second opinion from another local car specialist, which found there was no problem with the engine and the work that needed doing would only cost £500.
Talking to the newspaper about the incident, Mr Montgomery said: "It is important to say that you do not have to go to the main dealer to keep up the service record book and repairs.
"As long as your repairer or servicing mechanic uses genuine parts, then the warranty is still valid."
The Retail Motor Industry Federation recently called on drivers to consider car servicing checks before heading off on a long summer journey.
