Lancashire County Council calls for cars to be well maintained
- 2nd February 2010
Drivers need to ensure they keep their cars well maintained all year round, according to Lancashire County Council.
James Powell, a road safety advisor for the local authority, said that while MOTs only come round once a year, it is vital for motorists to always ensure vehicles are in a good condition.
He claimed that checking for chips on the windscreen, replacing windscreen wipers and ensuring lights work correctly can help people to save money in the long term.
“You can examine your car and make minor repairs before your MOT,” he explained.
“If you spot any problems that need to be fixed by a mechanic, you can also save money by shopping around for the best quote.”
Last week, Carsite.co.uk said drivers could ensure they receive the full resale value on their vehicles by having a long MOT certificate in place when trading it in.
According to the website, the value of a car with only a few weeks left on the MOT could fall by up to £300.
