Industry regulator launches MOT advice website

- 21st July 2009

A new support service designed to offer drivers advice on issues related to their MOT has been launched by industry regulator Motor Codes.

The body has announced the launch of its new freephone advice line and website after a poll revealed that 94 per cent of car owners would like a recognised garage code with minimum standards expected of repair centres that put vehicles through their paces.

Research by Consumer Focus also revealed that around a third of drivers have been unhappy with the level of service they received by such firms.

Chris Mason, director of Motor Codes, said car owners should look for its logo when booking a car in for servicing and also ask if the garage follows its latest code of practice.

He added: "It's the safest way to guarantee good work at an honest price."

The Retail Motor Industry Federation recently confirmed plans to introduce regulations that will see car servicing stations subjected to risk assessments.
