Glass’s Guide: Brits cutting back on car maintenance
- 3rd December 2009
Britons are cutting back on the amount of money they are spending on their cars, new research has revealed
The study by Glass’s Guide found that 46 per cent of people have deferred some expenditure on their vehicles over the past 12 months, with many suggesting this could be related to maintenance issues.
It was found that 15 per cent have postponed car servicing, while the same amount have also delayed bodywork repairs.
Andy Carroll, managing director at Glass’s, said that while some cutbacks were expected, those on servicing and tyres were particularly concerning.
He added: “These are crucial for safety, and also have an impact on resale values. Prospective buyers are always more likely to buy a car which has a full service history over one that does not.”
Recent figures published by Sainsbury’s Finance found that the average annual cost of car servicing has dropped slightly this year.
The average cost of maintenance work stands at £298.95 this year, which is 0.18 per cent less than during 2008.
