Efficient driving ‘can save money’
- 24th September 2009
Motorists could save money on car-related work like MOT's and servicing by improving their driving efficiency, it has been suggested
According to Peterborough Today, the Energy Saving Trust has revealed that smarter driving can help people cut the amount they spend on fuel and also cut “wear and tear” on car parts like clutches and tyres.
On the topic of the latter, the organisation claimed that the pressure of wheels should be checked once a week.
“Under-inflated tyres are dangerous, increase fuel consumption and wear out more quickly. Your car manual will give you the correct pressure,” the body told the newspaper.
The Energy Saving Trust added that car air conditioning should only be used when really needed, as it can also boost fuel consumption.
Rental service Europcar recently urged drivers to ensure they get their car serviced in line with manufacturer guidelines.
It added that companies often stipulate scheduled intervals at which vehicles should be checked.
