Drivers warned not to pay too much on MOTs

Motorists should pay attention to the cost of MOTs when taking their car to a garage for servicing.
While she claimed that regularly car servicing can keep cars in a good condition, MoneyWeek’s Ruth Jackson warned that people occasionally run the risk of paying over the odds on MOTs.
Writing on the website, she explained that such tests are a legal requirement for any car over three years old, but added that the cost is fixed by the government at £54.
“However, many garages are quick to add the cost of unnecessary repairs,” she added.
Ms Jackson concluded that drivers must ensure they get MOTs carried out at repair centres that have no “vested interest in failing your car”.
David Lang, chief engineer for the AA, recently told the Harlow Herald that car servicing can help drivers in the UK to maintain fuel efficiency, which in turn may reduce motoring costs
