Drivers ‘must follow manufacturers’ servicing schedules’
- 4th March 2010
Motorists in the UK should always follow manufacturer guidelines when it comes to car servicing, according to an expert.
Writing for the Wall Street Journal, Jonathan Welsh stated that attempting to pre-empt any problems with vehicles can be problematic, but a good way to ensure cars remain in good nick is to follow the schedule provided by the makers.
However, he added that those who are keen to get potential issues checked out should keep an eye on certain issues.
“It’s a good idea to have your mechanic check the water and fuel pumps for symptoms of wear, such as leaks or rough bearings, which are among the most common signs of trouble,” Mr Welsh explained in the column.
“Faulty electric pumps sometimes whine or make other odd noises but also don’t operate efficiently.”
Moneysupermarket.com recently warned drivers to remember that driving without an
MOT certificate, while insurance cover on vehicles without such documentation also tends to be invalid.
