Cutting back on car servicing ‘will not lower running costs’
- 8th September 2009
Car owners are looking for ways to lower their motoring expenses after fuel duty rose by 2p last month, however cutting back on car servicing is not advised.
Financial website ecomparison.co.uk suggested that while regular car services may seem expensive, the cost is much less than the price of emergency repairs.
“When you compare the cost of emergency repairs, towing and other expenses associated with a failure while on the open road, regular inspections and maintenance is much friendlier to your budget,” it added.
The source also recommended small measures such as making sure tyres are inflated or having them rotated regularly, as they will help lengthen a vehicle’s life.
David Lang, chief engineer for the AA, also recently emphasised the importance of keeping cars in good condition.
He told the Harlow Herald that a regular check-up can help maintain energy efficiency and lower fuel costs.
