Cutting back on car servicing ‘a false economy’

Cutting back on regular car services could be a false economy, it has been claimed
According to the Retail Motor Industry Federation, it is better to get vehicles checked out regularly to stop any minor issues from escalating into a costly major problem.
Alex Wells, a spokesperson for the group, said that it is best to make sure cars are properly maintained at all times and ensure that they undergo regular servicing.
“In the long run this will actually save you money because any small problems will be picked up before they become large problems – which is usually when they become expensive,” he added.
Mr Wells stated that the best thing motorists can do is make sure they go to a reliable garage which will offer advice on how to keep their car in good condition and keep repair costs down.
This advice could be particularly pertinent as figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show new car registrations have dropped 22.8 per cent across 2009 compared with the same period last year, meaning people are holding on to older and potentially more problem-prone cars.
