Cutting air con usage ‘could reduce car costs’
- 13th August 2009
Drivers should consider cutting their use of air conditioning systems if they want to reduce general motoring costs, it has been claimed.
While work on air conditioning systems can form a major part of car servicing, BeatThatQuote.com’s Victoria Bischoff has suggested people could benefit from only using them when necessary.
In a column for MSN Money, she explained that such systems increase fuel consumption, meaning many drivers could be spending over the odds on petrol by using them.
Other checks that motorists should consider regularly include whether tyres are inflated to the correct level and if their tread is in good condition.
Ms Bischoff said such advice should help drivers save “a pretty penny” on petrol costs.
Post Office Car Insurance recently claimed that motorists in the UK need to ensure their cars are regularly serviced and all parts of the vehicle – including air conditioning systems – are working properly.
