Car servicing `should not be avoided'

Cutting back on car servicing in the current economic climate is likely to lead to vehicles not being roadworthy, it has been claimed.

Research carried out by consumer guarantee provider Warranty Direct indicates that despite 72 per cent of drivers stating that they would be "lost" without their vehicles, some five million claimed that finances are so tight they cannot afford to spend anything on them.

Group representative Duncan McClure Fisher said that the survey findings are worrying.

He added: "In the short term you might save a bit of cash by not servicing your car, but eventually it is going to need work doing on it and you're only increasing the likelihood that it's going to be a very expensive repair job."

Last week, the Scarborough Evening News reported that more people in east Yorkshire are looking to have their cars serviced as a result of damage caused by poor-quality roads in the area.
