Car servicing `can reduce fuel costs'
- 10th June 2009
Tyre checks should be carried out regularly in order to help drivers reduce their fuel bills, it has been claimed.
According to consumer group Which?, under-inflated tyres can add eight per cent to fuel bills, are likely to lead to increased wear and can cause premature failure.
The company went on to say that always driving with the air-conditioning on can add as much as ten per cent to the cost of a fuel bill.
Tony Levene, author of Which? guide the Money Saving Handbook, recommended that drivers reduce fuel bills by one or two pounds each journey by making a few simple checks and changes to the way they drive.
"With petrol costs rising and people feeling the pinch, those couple of pounds could make all the difference at the moment," he added.
Last week, car expert Tom Torbjornsen wrote for news provider CNN that the most common complaint suffered by car air conditioner owners is refrigerant leakage.
