Car servicing ‘can keep vehicles efficient’
- 16th February 2010
Motorists should ensure their cars are serviced regularly to ensure they stay as efficient as possible, according to a road safety expert.
Neil Cunliffe, Lancashire County Council’s road safety group manager, said vehicles need to be subjected to regular checks as recommended by manuals if the engine is to run as smoothly as possible.
He added that drivers should also regularly check their tyre pressures at least once a week, as under-inflation could increase fuel consumption by up to three per cent.
Mr Cunliffe said: “We have all heard reports on climate change and know how important it is to cut down on CO2 emissions.
“Why not use Lent as an opportunity to stop bad driving habits for life?”
Last month, the council’s road safety advisor James Powell suggested that drivers could benefit from checking their cars are safe and roadworthy before taking them for an MOT, in order to prevent the need for a retest.
