BVRLA urges firms to ensure vehicles are roadworthy
- 1st December 2009
Companies should increase efforts to ensure the vehicles used by their employees are roadworthy and insured, according to the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA).
John Lewis, chief executive of the organisation, has claimed that a “zero tolerance” policy should be introduced to make sure staff can prove their vehicles are well-maintained and insured.
He also warned those who may regularly use fleet servicing to ensure they are not paying too much in relation to mileage payment rates.
“Mileage allowances should be based on fuel, the cost of maintenance and any loss of value through driving extra miles,” he explained.
“They should not include these additional costs, which are borne by the owner of a private car regardless of whether they are using it at work.”
The BVRLA was established in 1967 and is the UK trade body for companies involved in the leasing of cars and commercial vehicles.
