Auto Windscreens: Cracks can lead to MOT fail
- 18th February 2010
Motorists have been warned to ensure they get any windscreen damage checked out before they take their car for an MOT.
According to Auto Windscreens, nearly two million vehicles in the UK fail their MOT test each year due to cracks or damage that has been left unchecked by drivers.
The firm has suggested the figures highlight that many people may not realise that damage of more than 10mm in the driver’s line of sight, or 40mm in the rest of the windscreen, can lead to a fail.
Nigel Davies, sales and marketing director for Auto Windscreens, said drivers do not want to see their vehicles fail tests and servicing checks for such “a minor point”.
“All too often people don’t give their windscreen a second thought until it is too late,” he explained.
“My advice is to check it now to avoid the costly inconvenience of the vehicle failing its MOT and subsequently being off the road until a windscreen replacement or repair can be arranged.”
Neil Cunliffe, Lancashire County Council’s road safety group manager, recently said that regular servicing car servicing can keep vehicles efficient.
