AA issues pothole damage warning
- 11th February 2010
Motorists in the UK need to check their vehicles are in good condition after driving on roads littered with potholes, AA Insurance has claimed.
The insurance company has seen a four-fold increase in the number of claims made in relation to pothole damage, which is thought to be related to the impact that freezing weather has had on the UK’s roads.
According to the AA, pothole damage to cars is usually based around tyres, wheels, steering and suspension.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: “If you hit a pothole and afterwards you notice vibration, the steering wheel doesn’t ‘centre’ properly or it pulls to one side, get the car checked immediately.
“Keep an eye on your tyres, too. Damage may not be immediately obvious but watch for development of tell-tale bulges on the tyre walls, indicating serious internal damage.”
Warranty Direct recently suggested that pothole damage can leave motorists facing an average repair bill of £240.
