Oil really is the lifeblood of an engine. Just look at all the vital jobs it does:
It lubricates. By reducing friction, oil lessens wear on your engine and means you use less fuel. If you use a higher quality oil you can save up to 6% in fuel consumption (equivalent to £80 if you cover 10,000 miles at an average of 30 miles per gallon).
It protects. Good oils have additives that prevent corrosion and therefore the engine damage that can cause breakdowns. They also extend the life of expensive parts like catalytic converters by ensuring damaging gases are absorbed instead of being released into the converter.
It cools. Oil keeps the engine at the right operating temperature.
It cleans. Oil carries damaging elements to the oil filter and ensures the engine continues to operate at its optimum level.
It helps start up. The wrong oil in the engine can make your car hard to start on cold mornings.
As oil gets older it is less able to carry out these tasks. That's why it's so important to use the right quality oil and to top it up regularly.
For example:
The difference between Min and Max on your dipstick can be as much as a litre or 25% of the oil in your engine. That means at Min the oil is working 25% harder. For the best results, keep the level at Max.
Topping up adds fresh additives to the engine and allows the oil in the engine to last longer and give maximum protection. It also saves fuel and reduces the chance of breakdown.
Regular oil and filter changes ensure that the oil is always working as effectively as possible to protect your engine and enable it to perform to the maximum.
All oils used by IN 'n' OUT are provided by BP, whose huge investment in oil technology ensures they are of the highest quality and design.
